TLB Music, formerly Three Little Birds Music, was founded by best friends Katia Asthalter and Carina Zimmerman. Katia and Carina moved to New York City in 2004 after graduating from college and began working within the children's music world on the Upper East Side. Carina, who grew up playing the piano and violin, worked as a teacher at a children's music studio and Katia, who grew up singing opera, worked as the manager of the studio.
After several years of experience watching the immense benefits of early childhood music education at play, Katia and Carina decided to team up in 2008 to create TLB Music. The founding idea behind TLB Music was to establish a music studio in which children and parents could learn together through creative, imaginative play. TLB achieves this by providing enriching music classes that introduce all genres of music while allowing students to meet over 20 classical and folk instruments! Read more about TLB's classes here.
Shortly after opening the music studio, Katia and Carina realized the need for a neighborhood playspace that was clean, welcoming, and filled with educational toys. So, in 2009, they opened The Playroom. The Playroom is filled with fun, eco-friendly toys and activities for children ages 10 months to 6 years. Everything in the Playroom was chosen to enhance your child's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being.

We hope to instill a love of music in all of our students and strongly believe that music can serve as a communicative medium, developmental tool, and constant companion. We also believe that, in addition to structured educational play, unstructured free play is also crucial to a child's developmental achievements. We hope that The Playroom provides a healthy space for you to play, laugh, and learn with your children!
